But Isn't Religion & Christianity Good?
| Christianity only takes credit for doing good but has never directly done a good deed. This is even more true in America where people are raised to only look at the positive side of religions, and that it is taboo to talk negatively about religion. Because of this taboo it has become common to over look the problems caused by or fueled by Christianity. For now, let's examine the "good" that religion supposedly does and see if credit is given where credit is due. | True, some Bible verses like Luke 6:38 say, "For if you give, you will get!" encouraging us to be charitable and that is good. Yet others say to destroy other cities (Deuteronomy 20:15-18), kill those who work on the Sabbath (Exodus 31:15), rape the wives of the sinful (Isaiah 13:15-18), and be happy when we kill little kids (Psalm 137:8-9). If one's actions were based on the words of Christ in accordance with the Bible then they would not only follow the parts they personally find pleasant. Clearly one is bases such actions on an outside source, the good inside of all of us is why we decide to be charitable and also decides which Bible verses we feel like supporting. The decision and strive to do good deeds ultimately comes from the human conscience, not religion. If it was the other way around these religious groups doing charity work would not only be charitable but also kill, pillage, rape and enslave. |
In the end, charitable moderate Christians are not really Christians as they are not followers of Christ's teachings. Sure they believe that the figure Jesus Christ existed but just because a person believes in Bigfoot's existence does not make them a follower of Bigfoot. And sure, they may be influenced by some of the teachings of Jesus Christ but just because a person grew up being influenced by Sesame Street does not mean they are a follower of the Big Bird. When one truly follows the words in the Bible and honestly treats them as the infallible word of God without subjecting them to personal morals and an examination of the results one becomes what we call a "Fundamentalist Christian." When one actually bases their actions on the teachings of Christ we do not see positive progressive actions but rather the atrocities which make self proclaimed moderate Christians ashamed of their fundamentalist brethren.
Charity & Good Deeds

In the United States churches do have the highest rate of contributing donations to charities and also take an active part in helping out the homeless and less fortunate. This is true, but on the other hand their unconstitutional tax exception status robs money from others by pushing increased taxes and financial burdens on to the rest of us. According to the IRS in 2004, Americans took tax exemptions for $88 billion in religious donations. It would be more beneficial for churches to simply pay their taxes than any donations they have contributed. A man who steals $10 from a person is not charitable for giving that person $8.
There is an even bigger problem with supposed charities by Christian organizations. Every "charity" they do is closely tied in with their church's name as a marketing campaign or done to support a belief in what the Bible tells us. When one is aware of all the problems related to making it socially acceptable for others to take the Bible as a source of truth then more harm than good is being done each time a Christian organization or group attempts to be charitable |
We don't need churches or religion in order to donate money or help the homeless, we can do that on our own and there are plenty of secular charity companies out there that help for the sake of helping with no hidden agenda.

Isn't it Good for Society?
| It is commonly taught that we 'need' religion, that a society cannot manage without instructions from a celestial dictatorship. However, if we compare a primarily religious society like America to more secular nations we see the opposite. There is actually a higher rate of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, sexually transmitted disease infections, teen pregnancy, and abortions within religious based societies. Western European countries such as Sweden and Denmark are primarily secular, yet they have far lower crime rates, better social services for the disadvantaged and contribute more per capita to international aid than the US where the majority is religious. | The highest divorce rates occur in the most religious 'Bible Belt' states of America that include Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and Oklahoma as shown by statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Center for Health. Massachusetts, home of same sex marriage, has the lowest divorce rate. Teen pregnancy, suicide and alcohol related traffic fatalities are also higher in states with larger religious populations. Even education level drops drastically when religion is involved. Today the higher the educational attainment, or the higher the scores earned on intelligence or achievement tests, the less likely are the individuals to be Christians. None of this is evidence to say Christians are worse as people but it does clearly prove that religion does not make you a better person, nor is it needed for society. |
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons as of 1997 atheists make up 12% of the US population yet only 0.209% of its prison population. That is 156 out of 74,731 criminals who do not deriver their morals from religious beliefs while the rest do. Catholics & Protestants make up 74.172% of that population. Out of convicted rapists, 57% admitted to reading pornography and 95% admitted to reading the Bible.

What about the power of prayer?
| Isn't the power of prayer a good thing? It would be if it were true. Sadly though, the power of prayer is nothing more than a combination of coincidences and superstition. For every prayer answered there are millions that go unanswered. Even when something a person does pray for actually happens the request is rather vague and the answer is rather general. No more specific and detailed than an image in a cloud. | Researchers have performed tests in a controlled environment. Again and again prayer is constantly proven to have absolutely no effect on events. People who pray die of diseases, find satisfaction and win the lottery at exactly the same rate as people who don't pray. Further proving that the power of prayer is just an uncommon series of coincidences is the fact that what you pray to has no influence over the outcome. Whether you are praying to the Christian sky god, Buddha, a horse shoe, a milk jug, your big toe or the Flying Spaghetti Monster the results will still be the same. Some Christians may have prayed to their god before winning a lottery yet in 2007 a Wiccan high priest, Elwood Barlett, prayed to his spiritual wiccan gods and won $9 million in the Maryland lottery. It is just coincidence. |
